Queensland players compete in Croquet Australia Bronze Medal

It was all action over the weekend. Eight Queensland players were selected to play in the Croquet Australia Bronze Medal over three days at Eildon, with the winner to compete in the Croquet Australia Gold Medal tournament against the other state Bronze medal winners from VIC, SA, NSW, WA, and TAS over three days in September in Melbourne.

The event was played as the best of three untimed games (called a match) against each of the other seven selected entrants.

Tournament Manager was John Smith who managed his first event very capably and ensured everything ran very smoothly, good job John. Desley refereed for three days in one of her first outings as a referee and did a fantastic job.

And just as importantly, Paula and Kay (and some goodies from Sheila) provided players and officials with a delicious all-day spread.

> Friday’s round was played in an icy cold 40kmh wind, with the brave spectators triple-layered in the central shelter, or gathered on the deck where the wind was less intrusive.

> Saturday was much more pleasant and there was some great play.

Sunday started with two matches each to play and with three possible winners. Bob Martin from Eildon eventually won with five matches (17 untimed games over three days), one match ahead of Greg Bury and Graham McLean, both from Windsor.

Congratulations Bob, well done!
