No need to sign in to play

Have you ever wondered if you really need to sign in when you arrive at the club? The short answer is no, not any more.

If you're a registered player, you don't need to sign in to be covered by insurance. The Croquet Association of Queensland (CAQ) has no sign-in requirement either. No registered player from any club in Australia needs to sign in for insurance reasons, including when you visit another club.

Your insurance comes from Croquet Australia, not CAQ, and it covers every registered player in all states. The accident cover works whenever you're playing croquet, at home or away. Nothing in the summary of cover or the claim form says you have to sign in, and no Queensland law requires it either.

The CAQ committee agreed back in March that members are covered "regardless, when engaged in croquet activities (including play at home & away, taking part in fund-raising activities such as Bunnings Sausage Sizzles, etc)".

Your club can still ask you to sign in if it wants to, but there is no requirement to.

The only people who need to be written down before they play are visitors who aren't registered players, and players from overseas. That's Come & Try visitors, guests at a club hire and beginners at lessons. Overseas players count as visitors because they aren't registered with an Australian club.

Under the Croquet Australia Temporary Member Policy, visitors are recorded before they play, by QR code or by hand. For a club hire, a guest list from the organiser is fine. That record is what gives them their own accident cover. So if you help out at Come & Try, make sure they're written down.
