Nick Smith wins Rene Cole Memorial Trophy on countback

ene Cole Memorial Trophy – Open Championship Singles for Division 1 Association Croquet. (Event 1 of the 2017 Darling Downs Regional Tournament)

What a close finish at West Toowoomba Croquet Club on the city's hottest day!

At the end of the Round Robin, three players were tied on 4 out of 5 wins: Nick Smith (Pt Lookout, Maryborough), Ralph Allan and Heather Knight (both Stephens).

It was thought that the tie could be resolved on net hoops, but Nick and Ralph were still tied with 44 apiece.

Nick was announced as the winner of the trophy as he had won against Ralph when they played. Congratulations Nick Smith!

Event Manager Brian Brady couldn't remember such an outcome in the history of the event.

Thanks for hosting this event, West Toowoomba Croquet Club.
