aturday was competition day at WCC, with 12 players battling it out in our Handicapped Singles Competition.

Players were divided into two blocks of six, with the winners of each block progressing to the final.

For those who haven't played a handicap competition before, the idea is to give the less experienced player extra shots against a more experienced opponent. In theory, it makes things nice and even. In practice… well, let's just say our most experienced player found herself giving an opponent nine extra shots in their very first game! It explains why more experienced players don't usually compete in handicapped competitions.

The weather was on our side, with a lovely breeze making conditions very pleasant. And, of course, no Wynnum competition is complete without excellent food. A huge thank you to everyone who brought along the delicious goodies.

Nathan McGrath has taken out the WCC Handicapped Singles Championship, defeating Jim Love in a closely contested final.

Club Captain Viv Tidnarsh presented Nathan with a WCC key ring as champion, while Jim received the highly respected chocolate consolation prize.

The championship drew 12 players and was a great day of croquet, good company and good food. A big thank you goes to everyone who helped organise, umpire, prepare the lawns, provide food and generally make the day happen.

Congratulations Nathan!
