Metropolitan Challenge GC Doubles a great success at Wynnum
Wynnum hosted the Metropolitan Challenge GC Doubles on Sunday 4 February, with players from ten clubs. Geoff Jamieson and Lawrie Simpson of Eildon won the Challenge final.
ur Metropolitan Challenge GC Doubles tournament, held on Sunday 4 February, was a great success, with a full complement of players from Broadbeach, Southport, Caloundra, Headland Buderim, Bribie Island, McIlwraith, Stephens, Eildon, Windsor and Ipswich, as well as a number of our own club members.
We very much appreciate the generous sponsorship of Metropolitan Funerals Wynnum, and were pleased that the Manager, Therese Prebble, came along to present the trophies.
As with any tournament, a team effort is required to achieve a good result, and our team did us proud. From hoop-setting and court preparation, right through to games organisation and management, including refereeing, cleaning and catering, raffles, etc., we had a lot of willing volunteers. Many thanks to everyone.
The weather gods were kind to us, with only a light sprinkle during play, but nothing to stop some very enthusiastic croquet players. Our lawns were looking fantastic, under the watchful eye of our groundsman, all helped by the recent rain.
There were some fiercely contested games with close results. The Challenge final was won by Geoff Jamieson and Lawrie Simpson from Eildon Club. In second place were Peter Nicholson (McIlwraith) and Murray Tinker (Caloundra), with Dick Pickvance (Wynnum) and Dennis Green (Bribie Island) third.
The Plate Final was won by Ian and Michelle Reed (Southport).
