Merthyr appears on ABC's In Limbo, Ian Litchfield wins a golden hoop, and the Men's Shed fixes the trolleys
Merthyr Croquet Club featured in the ABC series In Limbo, Ian Litchfield won a dramatic Ernie Melville Trophy match, the Men's Shed repaired the club trolleys, and members enjoyed a sunny High Tea.
In Limbo
If you have been watching the ABC's series "In Limbo", you would have seen the club. Very fleeting though the shot was, it was still exciting to see Ian Litchfield's cameo, as he gracefully hits the croquet ball with that wonderful timber whack. Yes, he made the roquet. The episode is Episode 2, 25:47 meaning about 25 minutes into the episode.
"In Limbo" is a series that will make you laugh and cry, or both at the same time. It's a show about friendship, mental health, love and grief. Recognisable filming locations for the show include New Farm Park, Graceville Bowls Club, and so many other Brisbane locations, including many shots of the Story Bridge at night.
Seeing the wonderful city featured in a TV show brings a smile to the club's faces.
Ernie Melville Trophy competition
Ian Litchfield represented the Merthyr club at the Ernie Melville Trophy competition, played during May. With 50 minutes of play time left, Ian clawed his way back from 7 points down, with 3 peels and concentrated play, to bring the score up to 13-14. The time buzzer went and Ian managed a golden hoop to bring the score to an even 14-14. Croquet shots were exchanged and with a 15 yard shot lined up, Ian nailed it. Ian described the win as "the best win I've ever had."
Although Ian's other games did not work out so well, he thoroughly enjoyed playing in the competition and catching up with old friends. Well deserved winners for Division 3 and 4 in Association Croquet were from Southport. Thank you to the group organisers and referees for an enjoyable competition.
Trolleys fixed
Thank you to Fran Talbot who worked with the Hamilton Northshore Men's Shed to fix and freshly paint the trolleys at no cost to the club. This connection led to some of the Men's Shed family and friends coming along to the club to learn how to play croquet.

High Tea
Ladies from the Merthyr Croquet Club gathered together for a High Tea at the club house, on a lovely sunny winter's day in June. The club members all love croquet and are usually so busy playing games that they often don't get the time to natter and catch up. It was a memorable morning, with wonderful conversation while eating scrumptious delights.
