McIlwraith lawns renovated, a Golf Doubles competition, and improved flood resilience
McIlwraith reports on renovated lawns, a Second Level Golf Croquet Doubles competition, an upcoming Teams Day, and flood-resilience improvements including a solar hot water system.
During our summer recess our lawns were renovated and bare areas re-turfed. The rain and hot weather has contributed to the lawns responding well and being in excellent condition.
Our first Club competition for 2024, Second Level Golf Croquet Doubles for players with a handicap of 9 or above, was played in difficult hot and rainy conditions. This competition was to encourage players with a 9+ handicap to participate in competitive play. The winners were Anne Barry and Col Clayton who defeated Kerrie Hodgson and Alan Stone in a hard fought best of 3 games final.
Teams Day
At McIlwraith all members of the Club are allocated to a Team. Coming up on 23rd March is the first Teams Day of 2024. Games are organised and there is fierce competition between the 4 Teams followed by a BBQ lunch. A great event for bringing members together.
Improving our flood resilience.
The Brisbane City Council's Sustainability Agency has had Club's electricity meter, power board and Rainbird irrigation system relocated to an extended landing outside the back door. This will greatly reduce the impact of floodwaters on the Clubhouse. A solar hot water system has also been installed further improving our environmental footprint.
