McIlwraith Croquet Club celebrates its 102nd birthday

appy 102nd Birthday, McIlwraith Croquet Club!

On 24 September 1923, the first meeting of the Club was held after Lady Harriett McIlwraith kindly gifted the land we play on for recreation. Thanks to her vision, we're still swinging mallets, running hoops and sharing morning tea today.

Back in the early days, croquet was played once a week, with tea poured from silver sets and hats judged as carefully as hoop runs. Fast forward 102 years and we now have men as well as women as members, carbon fibre and wooden mallets, and online game booking. We host 50+ events a year and welcome over 2000 guests from the community.

Alice in Wonderland would hardly recognise us!

Today we celebrated with cake, cheer, plenty of mallets and hoops, and in traditional whites, looking absolutely fabulous!

Here's to friendship, fun and another year of McIlwraith merriment.
