The STEVE JONES CUP (part of the Bribie Island Challenge tournament)

Stephens was very well represented - Ralph, Rosemary, Tom and Heather Geraldine played in the previous week's Mary Masters Trophy.

Troy McCallum (Bundaberg) played really well in very hot and steamy conditions to win last weekend. Kathleen Colclough (Headland-Buderim) was his opponent in the final of the knockout.

After the games on Saturday, the top 8, including Stephens' Ralph Allan, went into a knockout and the rest of the field continued the Swiss format for the Plate. Last year's Cup winner, Tom Knight, won the Plate (5 out of 7 games).

Les and Tom completed Triple Peels.

The competition was a great warm-up (some would say 'too hot' if considering the weather) for next week's ACA Australian Open Women's and Men's Association Croquet Singles in Adelaide. All members of the Queensland Team for the Eire Cup to be held the following week played in this event:

- Captain, Willy Silk (Windsor) - Kathleen Colclough (Headland-Buderim) - Deidre Hardy (Laurel Bank) - Rosemary Newsham (Stephens) - Reserve/Manager, Cynthia Tacey (Windsor) - Vice Captain, Les Watson - Troy McCallum (Bundaberg) - Greg Whymark (Bribie Island) - Nick Smith (Pt Lookout) - Reserve, Dave Luxmoore

Many thanks to Lynda Davis and Gwen Connolly and their team at Bribie for all their work in running the Challenge.

Mad March Golf Croquet braves the heat at Stephens

A group of people in croquet attire and colorful hats pose for a photo on a lawn in front of a building labeled "STEPHENS."

There is something about mad dogs, Englishmen and midday sun, and perhaps we should add mad hatters in March ...

In very trying heat we welcomed players from Graceville, Ipswich, Twin Rivers and Wynnum, managing six of the seven planned games and enjoying the challenges.

Eventual winners of last Sunday's Mad March random draw Golf Croquet were Bruce McAlister (Ipswich) and Jim Noskoff (Stephens). Runners-up were Kath Taylor (Stephens) and George Nakhoul (Wynnum).

Jan Hills won the Crazy Hat prize for a croquet-themed creation (back right of the group photo), and Felicity McKenzie won the Maestro Meats $50 voucher raffle.
