The Gibson Medal is a long-standing level play Association Croquet singles event open to Queensland affiliated players only. The entrants compete for a medal donated by Mrs J Gibson's family in her remembrance.
Mrs J Gibson was a member of Windsor Croquet Club for twenty years from 1938. She had outstanding managerial expertise and was President of the Australian Croquet Council (ACC) in 1954, 1955 and 1956.
After Mrs Gibson died in 1958, her husband donated one hundred pounds for a medal to be played in her honour. In 1961 the inaugural winner was Mr Hedley Gunton of Windsor Croquet Club.
The 2021 Gibson Medal was played at Caloundra Mallet Sports Club on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th July. Sixteen players contested four blocks, with the top two in each block going on to contest a single life knockout to decide the winner. The bottom two in each block contested a single life knockout for the Plate.
The event was won by Lindsay David of Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club, with Bruce Fleming from Wynnum Croquet Club runner up. The final was closely contested, and the result could have gone either way, with Bruce failing to complete a match winning turn after time was called.
The Plate was won by Don Close from Gracemere Croquet Club, with Chris Borlase, also from Gracemere Croquet Club, runner up.
