Les Watson wins fifth Queensland Open Singles title

The CAQ Queensland Open Singles Championship was held at Stephens Croquet Club and Graceville Croquet Club over four perfect June days. This was particularly pleasing for the visitors from 'down south' - Trevor Bassett (NSW), Gareth Denyer (NSW) and David Wren (VIC).

Competitors came from 13 different clubs and Stephens was well represented by Tom Knight, Ralph Allan, Rosemary Newsham and Heather Knight.

Tom made it right through to the Final against Les Watson (East Brisbane), who won 2-0. Congratulations on your 5th win, Les.

David Luxmoore (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach) and Heather played off for 3rd and 4th.

Deidre Hardy (Laurel Bank, Toowoomba) won 6 out of 8 games to win the Plate.

Thanks to the referees and volunteers at both clubs for catering and preparing the courts each day.

There were several entries from the same family - Deidre & John Hardy, Susan & Mike Bertram, and Tom Knight and Heather Knight.

Does anyone know of any other family members of different generations playing at the same level of croquet, apart from Alison Sharpe and her teenage son Charlie in NSW?
