Jerry Coleby-Williams Opens Garden Near Wynnum Croquet Club
Jerry Coleby-Williams opened his celebrated edible garden near Wynnum Croquet Club, drawing crowds eager to explore, ask questions, and take selfies with the Gardening Australia presenter.
Just up the road from Wynnum Croquet Club in Daisy Street, a different kind of green was drawing crowds over the weekend. Well-known Jerry Coleby-Williams opened his garden gates to visitors eager to wander through one of Brisbane’s most celebrated edible gardens.
Despite ongoing back issues which are likely to see Jerry step away from television presenting, he was very much at the centre of the action. Visitors gathered around him throughout the day asking gardening questions, swapping stories, and lining up for selfies with the much-loved Gardening Australia presenter.
The garden itself was a feast for the senses. Numerous native bee hives, flourishing edible plants, and chilli bushes sagging under the weight of fiery red fruit. Fruit trees, herbs, vegetables and unusual edible plants seemed tucked into every available corner, creating the feeling of a living jungle pantry rather than a suburban backyard.
Before entering, visitors had to disinfect their footwear, a small but important reminder of the care Jerry takes in protecting plant health and biosecurity in the garden. At just $10 entry, it proved tremendous value, with many leaving inspired to attack their own gardens armed with new ideas.
