In memory of Peter Byrne, beloved club captain
Twin Rivers Croquet Club mourns the passing of Peter Byrne, a dedicated club captain and passionate coach who shaped the club for seven years and inspired countless members.
t is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our dear friend and fellow club member, Peter Byrne.
Peter served as our Club Captain for seven years and was a much-loved and valued member of our club. He had a genuine passion for coaching others, which he did with patience, good humour and great generosity. Many prospective members first discovered their love of croquet through training sessions with Peter, and his warm and welcoming approach helped inspire them to join our club.
Together with his wife, Chris, Peter organised countless Golf Croquet tournaments, club competitions and special club celebration days over the years. He was always generous with his time, offering one-on-one tuition to help members improve their game and keep their skills sharp. Peter also played an integral role in the club's decision to affiliate with Croquet Queensland, opening the door for our members to participate in more competitions and connect with the wider croquet community.
We will also fondly remember Peter's appreciation for a good cup of tea and a piece of cake shared with friends. But above all, the word that best describes Peter is gentleman. He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word — polite, honourable and gracious, always treating others with kindness and respect.
Peter gave so much to our club, not only through his dedication and contribution, but also through the friendship, encouragement and warmth he shared with those around him. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy and will be greatly missed by us all.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Chris, Peter's family and all those who loved him during this incredibly difficult time.
Vale, Peter. Thank you for everything you gave to our club. You will always be remembered with great affection and respect.
