Have a gander at Twin Rivers' New Clubhouse

August 2010. Des and Beryl Schodel founded Twin Rivers after moving from the Gold Coast. The club began with seven members, one court, and one morning of play a week.

For the next decade, the club had no permanent home. They started at the Oliver Sports Complex before moving through five other venues, including the Bethania Cricket Club, Beenleigh soccer ground, Beenleigh RSL, and Beenleigh Bowls Club. The club described themselves as "wandering minstrels" during those years of carting gear between grounds.

In 2018 the club secured the Bedford Park site. They moved in early 2020, and the courts opened on 14 January 2021. Since then the club has run on its courts and a storage shed, and it now has four courts.

In February 2023, as the only mallet sports club in the City of Logan, Twin Rivers called for a clubhouse on site. They wanted a space for the comfort of their members and a place to hold gala days and special events.

Construction began in April 2026. Logan City Council is delivering the project with more than $82,000 from the Queensland Government. The building will have a meeting room, a kitchenette, and accessible toilets. Club president Maia McGhee said, "We have worked closely with representatives from the council who have taken our needs into account and we are excited to see it take shape."

On a lovely spring Sunday morning in September, Wade Hart had morning coffee with Kevin Hamilton-Reen, the Brisbane South delegate and a Twin Rivers member at Beenleigh, then dropped in to see the build.

The video above is his walk round. The club's drawings on a fridge promise a "big, spacious inside" and a "lovely front verandah", and the real building behind the fence is nearly ready. The trophies that now are on a temporary wall in their shed will be proudly displayed in their brand new clubhouse.

The new clubhouse has a big prominent verandah that faces east, so the afternoon sun sets behind the building and throws shade over the spectators on the deck. The panorama of the courts will be a popular place for Logan residents to gather and socialise when not playing. The building is metal framed, so it will last a long time and be low maintenance for the club.

The temporary fences should come down in a couple of weeks allowing this magnificent bit of infrastructure for croquet to begin its life. The club is celebrating its opening on Thursday 22 October.
