Graham McLean dedicates his winning trophy to the late Cynthia Tacey

WCC member Graham McLean dedicates his winning trophy to the late Cynthia Tacey whose photo graces the wall of the clubhouse. Graham McLean was the co-winner, along with Dennis Green, of the Windsor Doubles Division 1 competition. Graham said at the presentation how hard the week was for the club after the recent sad death of long-time member Cynthia Tacey.

"This is why the trophy means so much to me and I dedicate it to her," he said. "She taught me to play croquet and she was my first coach."

Graham said they had been friends for years often meeting for coffee away from the clubhouse. "Cynthia is sadly missed."

Max Kilmister rules session

Windsor Croquet Club member Max Kilmister recently conducted power-point presentations and on-court demonstrations to acquaint other members of the rules that apply when playing croquet. Max said the rules state both sides, referees and players, are responsible for the fair and correct application of the rules. "This means all players should know the rules and not leave it up to the referee to be the person with the knowledge," he said. Max prepared the power-point presentation to make it easier to see on a screen what the rules are. The rules were reinforced with clear diagrams.

After the presentation that was given inside the clubhouse, Max used on-court demonstrations. Just some of the rules Max went through related to wrong ball play, interference, crushes, double tap, offside balls and faults. Max has also given members notes on the rules and these include the use of free shots which are part of his notes on tactics.

25,000 days for Gary Andison

It is 25,000 days since valued member of Windsor Croquet Club, Gary Andison, was born. He recently celebrated the milestone with his wife, the club's secretary Lesley, his family members, his friends and croquet club friends. The idea of celebrating the significant number of days since your birthday was suggested by Gary's daughter-in-law Bo who has special Korean heritage. Many people were going home after the party at the club to google the number of days since their births.
