Gordon Giles and Dianne Lovi win Winner Takes All

What a weekend we had at Wynnum Croquet Club! Our Golf Croquet Pro-Am GC Doubles competition, sponsored by Shawn & Kym Kristofer Real Estate, was held over two days.

This was a GC level play event, with the doubles pairings made up of an experienced player with a handicap of 5 or under and a partner with a handicap of 6 or over. This really was fascinating to watch as the combinations worked together, and the inexperienced player gained knowledge and confidence from playing with their more experienced partner.

Unfortunately, a few pairs had to withdraw at the last minute due to injury, illness or work commitments, and our Venue Manager was also missing due to illness. These changes necessitated some fancy footwork on the part of the Tournament Manager, and we sincerely appreciate those players and volunteers who stepped in to take on the various tasks which had to be done. What a great team effort.

At the end of round 12, the top two seeded pairs, Gordon Giles & Dianne Lovi (Wynnum) and Gabby Spencer & Trevor Gray (Southport), were equal on 10 wins each.

It came down to their final game against each other to find out who could claim the "Winner Takes All" purse. The winners of this game were Gordon & Dianne, who also won the inaugural event last year.

Our sponsors Shawn & Kym donated two Lucky Player prizes, one for a player drawn from the "5 or under" group, and the other for a player from the "6 or over" group. Shawn & Kym also provided a Thank You certificate to each player for participating in Queensland's Richest Golf Croquet Doubles Competition.

An event of this size would never happen without the support of volunteers, including the Tournament Manager, Venue Manager and Assistants, Referees, hoop setters, and catering ladies. A huge thank you to everyone. We certainly appreciate your hard work.

Our thanks must also go to Club Members who provided some delightful treats for morning and afternoon tea. Everyone enjoyed the 'goodies'!
