We had the best weekend ... croquet, croquet, croquet as usual, but had friends from other clubs join us for the Stephens Easter Carnival: two days of Association Croquet Handicap Singles (see previous post) and a very full day of Golf Croquet Doubles on Monday.

Congratulations to Gordon and Deirdre Giles (Wynnum), who won our popular annual Doubles using an adapted Egyptian scoring, played last Monday in brilliant weather on impeccable lawns.
A record 16 pairs entered this year, and Ernie Melville, who masterminded the scoring, presided over an enjoyable day of good friendly competition. Gillian and Jenny (McIlwraith) were second place getters. Well done!
Many thanks to all who helped "make the day" and to Louise for the report and photos.

We welcomed players from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, many other Brisbane clubs and even Norwood in Adelaide.
On Sunday it was a very close final between Barbara Northcott (Southport) and Heather Knight (Stephens), but Heather had the 'home ground advantage' and got ahead just in time to win.
Well done to Paul Ekeberg (East Brisbane), who won the Y (first round losers) part of the XYZ format.
Like several other croquet players, Margaret Melville is a talented quilter and donated a hand-stitched table runner for the lucky door prize. Ross was very pleased to be able to take this home.
Thanks to Ernie for organising the games, and to all those who helped set hoops and volunteered in other ways to make the two days such a pleasant time.
