John van Barneveld on feeling positive about croquet and why membership is his number one priority.

Dear members,

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I have been getting things organised.

The management committee welcomes Jill Cole as Brisbane North representative and Kevin Hamilton-Reed as Brisbane South delegate. Each region has a representative or delegate whose aim is to help their clubs operate better. They tell CAQ what things clubs want help with and they assist in helping their clubs adopt improvements.

We have so many passionate people in croquet, I enjoy thinking of all the possibilities the game has, and I'm excited for it.

In some ways, we have too many possible things that could be done. It is my job to judge the resources Queensland croquet has, and consider all the different possibilities and prioritise the ones that I think hold the most benefit for croquet's future.

We don't have a lot of spare resources. So we can't do everything. I'd like croquet to be able to do more things.

To do more things in the future I am prioritising getting more members now.

More members will give us more croquet friends. Some of those will have great jokes or bake delicious cakes. Some of them will win the ISS & Eire Cup for Queensland.

All of them will help pay for our lawns upkeep. They will join wanting to contribute to their new hobby. Remember when you first joined?

The only thing each club needs is a smiling face. And on these beautiful sunny Queensland winter's days how could you not smile?

Enjoy your croquet,

John van Barneveld

President, CAQ
