From noxious tree to nature's showcase

any of our members will remember the Chinese Elm that once stood near the croquet courts. As this species is considered noxious, it was removed by the council some time ago.

While the tree is gone, its old stump has taken on a fascinating new role. It produces an amazing variety of fungi in different shapes, sizes and colours, turning what was once an unwanted tree into a miniature natural display.

It's a wonderful reminder that nature has a remarkable way of recycling and creating new life. Next time you're at the club, take a moment to have a look. You might be surprised at the tiny world of fungi thriving right beside our croquet lawns!
