Fordyce and Russell win Wynnum handicap singles titles; Spring croquet magazine out

Mike Fordyce wins Wynnum Golf Croquet Handicap Singles

Wynnum Croquet Club held the Golf Croquet Handicap Singles on Sunday 3 October 2021. The weather was fine and there was a field of only 6 players, who played as a round robin block.

This being a handicap competition, there were many fiercely contested games as the lower handicap players were trying desperately to get the higher handicap players to use up their extra turns.

There was no clear winner until all the results of the final round of games were known. Mike Fordyce was declared the winner with 5 wins and +11 hoops. All players had at least 1 win on the day.

Deirdre and Gordon Giles were kept busy as referees for the day, looking after all the games being played on 3 courts.

Beryl Russell wins Wynnum Ladies Handicap Singles

Wynnum Croquet Club held the Ladies Golf Croquet Handicap Singles on Sunday 19 September 2021. The weather was spectacular and there was a field of 12 players divided into 2 blocks. Our thanks to Club Captain Deirdre and Tournament Manager Gordon, who did a great job finding replacements for some very late withdrawals.

It was wonderful to see some of our new members playing in competition for the first time and enjoying every minute. All players had at least 1 win on the day.

The top player from each block went into the final. Block A was won by Cecelia Hains with 5 wins + 11 hoops. Two players tied with 4 wins in Block B, and Beryl Russell got through with 4 wins + 11 hoops.

The final was played on the following Saturday and won by Beryl, who will be presented with the Dell Nichol Shield at our Christmas party.

Deirdre and John were kept busy as referees for the day, looking after all the games being played on 4 courts.
