Esme Lucas-Havens wins Wynnum Women's Handicap Singles
Esme Lucas-Havens won the Wynnum Women's Handicap Singles on Saturday 30 September, taking the Dell Nichol Shield for the second time. It was a close contest among the top three players.
he WCC Women's Handicap Singles was held on Saturday 30 September. There were only six women players, so two courts were set aside for the players who were double banked and two courts were available to other members to use. The timers were set at 60 minutes and play began at 9am. There was to be no final play-off; the winner would be decided on games won and, if even, net hoops.
Playing conditions were good and the lawns were running reasonably fast. It was a close contest between the top three players: Esme, Vivian and Beryl.
The winner was Esme Lucas-Havens. This was the second time that Esme had won the Dell Nichol Shield. Congratulations Esme, and well done to all the players who took part. Thanks to John for his help in the draw and setting up the lawns.
Perhaps next year more women could be encouraged to enter this competition!
