Eildon pair wins Go See Touring Bayside Cup

Another fine sunny Sunday for our last major tournament of the year. The "Go See Touring Bayside Cup" GC Doubles was a great success, with a full complement of players from Burleigh Heads Palm Beach, Caloundra, Eildon, Ipswich, Laurel Bank, Southport, Twin Rivers and Windsor, as well as a number of our own club members, all vying for the honours. We love having our friends from other clubs coming to support our tournaments.

There were some very close results in the Blocks.

Block A was won by Mike Mabbutt & Jill Cole (Eildon), who won all 7 games with 20 net hoops. In second place in Block A were Mary McMahon (Southport) & Gordon Giles (Wynnum), who won 5 games with 16 net hoops.

Block B was won by Richard Pickvance (Twin Rivers) & Graham McLean (Windsor), who won 6 games with 18 net hoops. In second place in Block B were Steve Scrimgeour & Dot Davidson (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach), who won 5 games with 5 net hoops.

The final was won 7-3 by Mike Mabbutt & Jill Cole to take out the trophy.

As with any tournament, a team effort is required to achieve a good result, and our team did us proud. From hoop-setting and court preparation, right through to games organisation and management, data entry, and including refereeing, cooking, cleaning and catering etc., we had a lot of willing volunteers. Many thanks to everyone.

We value greatly our ongoing relationship with Go See Touring and very much appreciate their sponsorship of the Bayside Cup each year. Deirdre Giles presented the Cup and prizes to the winners and runners up on behalf of Go See Touring.
