Eildon pair wins Wynnum's Bayside Cup

Two players on a green lawn play croquet, one mid-swing with a mallet near a wicket and colored balls

ynnum's Annual Bayside Cup was played on Sunday, a GC doubles event with two blocks of 8 teams playing a 7 game round robin.

Eildon was represented by 8 players in 5 of the teams:

Block A

- Lawrie Simpson & Geoff Jamieson - Graham McLean and Dennis Green (Bribie Island) - John Smith & Geoff Hull (Twin Waters)

Block B

- Bob Martin & Wade Hart - Megan Stuart & Marilyn Nelson

After a long day's play Lawrie and Geoff won Block A by one game, ahead of Graham and Dennis.

In Block B, Bob and Wade won over Charlie Ernst and Hisham Elkomy from Southport by just one hoop! That is a really close result.

In an all-Eildon final, Lawrie and Geoff prevailed 7-3 over Bob and Wade.

Well done to all players, referees, volunteers, and the Wynnum club for another great tournament.

Thanks to Megan for the photos.

Eildon's Annual Lawn Renovation

The renovation of all the lawns went well last week. The process included scarifying in 2 directions, picking up the thatch with mowers, rakes and wheelbarrows, re-mowing, rolling, finding and filling depressions, fertilising, watering and trailering away three loads of thatch/clippings. Big thank you to Rino (professional greenkeeper) for many hours of hard work. Thanks also to the many volunteer helpers who came along when requested and did a great job – some of them are in the photo (hard at it).

There is continuing work being done to enable the playing surface to be groomed for a yard outside the boundaries. All 4 codes benefit when balls do not "run out" of court near a boundary line because the surface is not level. To achieve a level surface inside the boundary it is necessary practically to groom a yard outside the boundary. Also, particularly in Golf Croquet, a flat stance is required outside the boundary of up to a yard.

And thanks to Lawrie and Rino for all your hard work in organising the lawn renovations, which will only improve Eildon's much-admired lawns.
