aster Carnival continued: Golf Croquet Doubles

At the start of the day, the pairs are ranked and allocated 100 points. Using a modified Egyptian format devised by Stephens' Ernie Melville, points are either won or lost based on the pair's handicap.

Over the years, it is rare for the top combination to win, and often the overall result is not determined until the end of the seventh (final) game.

As for the Association Croquet event, there were lots of new faces from many other clubs, as well as those who have supported the event several times.

It was worth the trip from the Sunshine Coast for John Dark (Noosa) and Russell Robinson (Headland-Buderim), who won with 123 points. Congratulations!

The runners-up were Stephens' Deb Gunner and Maria Bume (of jump shot fame).

Once again, thank you to Club Yeronga for sponsoring the weekend.

Many thanks to Gaye Pitman for her expert refereeing on the day.

Of course, there were many volunteers behind the scenes preparing the courts, setting the hoops, managing the event and providing delicious treats for between-game snacks. Thank you one and all.

Easter Carnival continued:

On the two days before Maria's very popular jump shot, it was the turn of the Association Croquet players, including Maria, to compete in the Advanced Level Play Handicap Singles.

There were some new faces as well as our many friends from other clubs who have supported the event over the last few years (it has been running for over 30).

At last, it was the turn of Lindsay David (Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club Inc) to take out the Winner's prize money after many times as Runner-up.

Kevin Hamilton-Reen, a rapidly improving new player, was very happy too.

Stephens thanks Club Yeronga for once again sponsoring the Easter Carnival.
