Doubles Championship

East Brisbane's 2026 Doubles Championship decided by one hoop.

East Brisbane Croquet Club held its Doubles Championship on the last Sunday in September and were rewarded with a fine sunny 27-degree day and light river breezes.

As you would expect with the high-low format there were many close results. Vicke Butler and Pat Thomas played Anne Barry and Bill Howell in the final round of the competition. The 5-4 result left both teams with 4 wins from 5 games, with Vicke and Pat finishing ahead by just 1 hoop in the for / against net score on the day.

Pizza and a glass or two of wine capped off a very enjoyable day. Apart from the croquet there was much to discuss including the incredible win by the Brisbane Lions against the Fremantle Dockers in the AFL Grand Final, and some changes to the Croquet Club’s facilities that are likely in the improvements planned for Mowbray Park.
