Dave Luxmoore reaches the Bribie final as BHPB celebrates competition, community and Betty Adam

On the competitive front, Dave Luxmoore finished second at the Bribie Island Association Croquet Tournament. Dave progressed through a strong field of two blocks of eight players, and he and Shane Davis of Windsor Croquet Club topped their blocks to meet in the final. The close final was decided by just two hoops after the bell, with Shane needing a long roquet, eleven hoops and a peg out to secure the win.

BHPB also enjoyed success interstate, with President Ann Rawding winning the Plate event at the NSW Women's Golf Croquet Tournament.

At home, the club held a successful Bunnings BBQ fundraiser. Volunteers managed grills, queues and the occasional wind-blown napkin, raising valuable funds and creating plenty of friendly conversation.

Division 2 pennants were hosted at Palm Beach on 20 March. Beth and Dot served as referees, while Joy and Ross played Greg and Julie, and Ted and Brian took on visitors from Coolangatta. Competitive matches and good sportsmanship made for an enjoyable day on home lawns.

At the end of March, Beth tested herself in the strong Open Women's Singles field at Wynnum. She beat three State players and one former State player across two days. Chris also helped as a referee in the heat. Beth did not claim a trophy, but was justifiably proud of her performance.

The club ended on a sombre note, marking the passing of long-serving member and former President Mrs Betty Adam, who died peacefully on 8 February after a short illness. Betty was a formidable Association Croquet player and respected instructor. Many newer AC players remember her patience, precision and enthusiasm, and the recent growth in AC participation owes much to her mentoring and encouragement. Betty celebrated her centenary on 23 October 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
