Bribie Island croquet exodus to Hervey Bay
Fourteen Bribie Island members spent six days competing and socialising at the annual Hervey Bay croquet competition, bringing home wins and smiles.
In August 14 members of the Bribie Island Croquet Club left the island and set off for six days of croquet competitions in Hervey Bay. Players from many clubs on the Sunshine Coast attended, but Bribie had the largest group. The club laid on morning and afternoon tea and barbecues for everyone, and a tremendous amount of hard work went on behind the scenes.
Bribie members are a keen bunch, adventurous and wanting to have a go. Some members had not entered before, so all were wanting to do well. It was not just the competitions that were fun but meeting friends from other clubs, meeting in the evening for a meal together, or even heading off after the event on a whale watching boat. It was great fun.
Ian McCasker fought off some tough competition to come runner up in his event. Maggie Lawson played excellently in her singles events and was narrowly beaten to second place in her block. The doubles competition was really tough, however Bribie represented their club brilliantly. Ian McCasker and his partner Coral from Hervey Bay won their event, and Dolly and Sandy fought a hard battle in their event and won.
Well done Bribie. Everyone came home smiling after a very successful trip. So next year, look out Hervey Bay, we may be back.
