Bob Martin goes back-to-back at the President's Medal

Bob Martin of Eildon has won the CAQ Golf Croquet President's Medal for the second year in a row. Claire Warriner of Windsor was runner-up, and Caloundra Croquet Club's own post described her as "very delighted".

Caloundra hosted 16 players in a full round robin, so everyone played everyone once. Games ran from 24 to 26 July, and the full results are on CroquetScores. Headland-Buderim's post praised the perfect winter weather.

Martin finished with 13 wins and 2 losses. Both losses were by a single hoop, 5-6 to Steve Bickley on 25 July and 5-6 to Chris Borlase on 26 July. Warriner finished with 11 wins and 4 losses. When the two met, Martin won 6-5, the closest of margins.

CAQ President John van Barneveld presented the medals. Ross and Helen Rillie of Headland-Buderim were among the referees. Warriner's home club, Windsor, sent her its congratulations.

Last year Martin won a four-game final against Sidney Bates. He lost the first game 5-7, then took the next three 7-4, 7-3 and 7-2.

This was the fifth President's Medal. It is the Golf Croquet counterpart to the Gibson Medal, and only Queensland-registered players may enter. Earlier winners were Gordon Giles (2022, Wynnum), Casey De-Vene (2023, then Merthyr, now Eildon) and Sidney Bates (2024, then Ipswich, now Stephens).
