Bates and Graf win CAQ GC Open Doubles

he CAQ GC Open Doubles was played at Eildon Croquet Club on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of March, with the players competing for the Cynthia Tacey & Greg Kerswell Trophy.

A field of fifteen pairs from southeast Queensland clubs contested two round robin blocks on Saturday, with the top four from each block progressing to the Championship block on Sunday. The remaining players played a consolation block, also on Sunday.

Playing 14 games over two days in glorious sunshine, the final result in the Championship was decided in the last round of play.

The winners were Sidney Bates (Ipswich) & Arthur Graf (Eildon) with 6 wins & 11 Net Hoops.

Runners-up were Gordon Giles (Wynnum) & Casey De Vene (Merthyr) with 5 wins & 11 Net Hoops.

Our congratulations to Sidney and Arthur on a great win to take out the trophy.

Eildon was fortunate to have five experienced referees: TR Ross Rillie, Deirdre Giles, Sue Green, Gaye Pitman, and Willy Silk.

This was a great team effort by Eildon members, and thanks must go to all those who helped each day: the Tournament Manager, referees, hoop setters, line markers, hoop checkers, those who put out tables and chairs, and also the caterers. Well done everyone, it was a fantastic weekend.
