Ant and feather provide lawn-side entertainment at Wynnum

t the croquet club, wildlife often provides players with quiet entertainment.

Players noticed what appeared to be a small white feather gliding unsteadily across the lawn. On closer inspection, a tiny black ant was hauling the feather across the grass, the feather many times larger than its determined carrier. Step by step, the ant wrestled with its oversized prize, navigating blades of grass like hurdles on a miniature obstacle course.

For a time, persistence won out over common sense. A little while later the feather was found abandoned and the ant had disappeared. Where it was headed, and what grand plans it had for the feather, remains unknown.

It was a small reminder that while we focus on hoops, mallets and carefully judged shots, an entire world of drama, effort and curiosity is unfolding at ground level, adding an unexpected touch of wonder to life at the croquet club.
