2026 Gold Coast Tweed Ricochet Champions

Gold Coast Tweed Region Ricochet Croquet Championship 2026

Division 1 Singles Champion: Dave Luxmore (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach)

Division 2 Singles Champion: Gavin Clarke (Coolangatta)

Ricochet croquet is a game of skill, strategy, and self-control. And these physical and mental traits were on full display at the Gold Coast Tweed Region Ricochet Championship, held over 22-23 September 2026.

The Division 2 Singles event was held at Coolangatta Croquet Club and comprised both seasoned and newer players to Ricochet. The Divisional winner was only decided after the last round of two days of round-robin. Until that final round it was possible for Doug Turner (Coolangatta), or Gavin Clarke (Coolangatta), or Ann Rawling (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach) to potentially prevail as the champion.

The final round saw Gavin Clarke prevail over Ann Rawling, and Val Smith soundly crushing Doug Turner, and with that his dreams of being champion. The final scoreboard was a tie in games won between Gavin and Doug, but Gavin achieved marginally better net hoops. An important lesson in tournament play is that every hoop counts when there is a countback to determine final standings.

Similarly, in the Division 1 Singles event, at BHPB, three players emerged as possible tournament winners going into the final round. In the penultimate round, Peter Singh (Coolangatta), as a newly promoted player, caused an upset by defeating Ray Chapman (Ballina Cherry Street), who earlier this year won Open New South Wales Ricochet Singles Championship in Sydney. The final round witnessed Peter securing a win over Robert Smillie (Coolangatta) and Dave Luxmore (Burleigh Heads Palm Beach) defeating Ray by one point, and with that single-point victory taking the championship as the undefeated player.
